With the same determination to serve community 100 NSS volunteers of D. S. Gurukul College marched towards Ballopur village and remained there from 9th March to 15th March. 2015. The NSS camp was organized by the college under guidance of Dr. Kompal, Principal DSGCE, Ms. Anjali Gulati and Ms. Aarti Bhatt (Prog. Officers), with the objective to motivate students towards community services.

The camp was inaugurated on Monday 9th March 2015 with full zeal and enthusiasm. The function started with prayer and deepshikha which was lighted by Dr. Gurpreet Singh, Chairman UGI, Dr. Rachit Garg, Director UGI, Dr. Kompal Wadhawan, Principal DSGCE and Sh. Hakam Singh, Sarpanch Village Ballopur.

Our worthy Principal Dr. Kompal Wadhawan and students council welcomed the Chief Guest. In the inaugural function, students were told about NSS objectives, motto and activities to be conducted during NSS Camp. Some students shared their previous experiences to create interest and zeal among students for camp.

Activities undertaken during camp

  1. CLEANLINESS DRIVE – Volunteers moved a drive for cleanliness in the village. They cleaned the surroundings of the village and put their best efforts to make the drive a success.
  2. AWARENESS DRIVE: Volunteers created awareness amongst the villagers against Aids for proper hygiene, the menace of female foeticide, drug abuse, dowry etc. Volunteers did this campaign with enthusiasm. Students also made health bands (Kapoor, Laung, And elaichi) to the village children as a precaution against swine flu.
  3. SURVEY: A survey was conducted by the volunteers to collect complete data about the village.i e. is about literacy availability of electricity, land handlings, the live stock, members of family’s ratios,living standard, drug abuse/addiction etc.
  4. HEALTH CHECK UP CAMP:  A health camp was organized on 11th March 2015 with the help of Universal Institute of Nursing.  Nursing staff of the college along with the students calculated the BMI of villagers and NSS Volunteers.
  5. TALENT :– Talent hunt was also organized on 14th March 2015. As volunteers motivated the village folk about cleanliness, health, personal hygiene etc. About 80 children from the village participated in the talent Hunt. Parents were also very excited for their wards. Talented children adjudged along with their performances. Prizes were given for I, II and IIIrd positions.
  6. RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES: - During the camp volunteers with special skill taught the young village girls about flower making, best out of waste, Nutritional Recipe and embroidery.
  7. WORKSHOP: Workshop was also organised during the camp for NSS volunteers and village students on Importance of Yoga in today’s life on 12th March 2015. Mr. Mohit Bhardwaj taught students various Yog Aasan and its importance.
  8. ENVIRONMENTAL CAMPAIGN: Villagers were motivated to keep their surroundings clean and eco friendly. They told about the gardening, to maintain kitchen gardens properly and use of cow dung manure in a systematic way. Importance and necessity of biogas plant in the village was emphasized to the villagers.
  9. RALLY: During the NSS camp two rallies were carried out Female Literacy and Swach Bharat Abhiyan on 10th March and 13th March 2015 respectively. Flag off was done by Sh. Hakam Singh ,Sarpanch Ballopur and village girls. Volunteers took out a rally with banners and slogans to create awareness for Cleanliness (Swacha Bharat Abhiyan) and Female literacy . Volunteers were accompanied by their teacher in charges.
  10. TEACHING: - Volunteers taught the school students also during NSS Camp in the evening session. They used different teaching strategies to teach them. They motivated girls also to continue their studies till they can.
  11. EXTENSION LECTURE: Extension lectures was also organised during the NSS camp. Dr. L.K Attri, Dean UCACS on 10th March delivered Lecture on Environment awareness, Mr. Mohit Bhardwaj, Asst. Prof DSGCE on 12th March 2015 delivered Lecture on Swine Flue, Dengue, Bird Flue and First Aid and Mr. Jaspreet Singh on 13th March 2015 delivered Lecture on Saving Schemes for girls.

THE VALEDICTORY FUNCTION

On the concluding day of 7 Days NSS camp at Ballopur village, under the guidance of programme officers, the NSS volunteers organized valedictory function in the Rajiv Seva Kendra,Vill. Ballopur. Dr. Gurpreet Singh, Chairman, UGI was the chief guest on the occasion. Sh. Hakam Singh, Sarpanch village Ballopur was the guest of Honour. Dr. Gurpreet Singh Congratulating over 105 NSS volunteers, in his address said that NSS camp is the best platform to acquire qualities of leadership, to have social experience by direct contact with the society .He appreciated this meaningful and purposeful camp where NSS volunteers of the college tried to inculcate various skills in the villagers.

In cultural activities songs, poem recitation, Giddha, Skit were performed by the children of Ballopur Village which were prepared under the guidance of NSS volunteers of the college. A skit having theme "Drug De-addiction" was also presented by the NSS volunteers. Gifts were also given to the children of village for the talent hunt competition as token of appreciation by Dr. Kompal.
The NSS volunteers shared their experiences and expressed their satisfaction of being able to do something for the betterment of society .The programme concluded with vote of thanks given by Dr. Gaurav Sachar.
